Zane Grey, an early 20th century aurthor who wrote many old western stories you may have heard before, is also quite the cowboy himself. This shows true by looking at one of his most prized possessions, a Winchester 1895 rifle designed by John Browning. The gun, in immaculate condition, has been housed in the Cody Firearms Musesum, in the Buffalo Bill Center.
- Zane Grey’s John Browning designed Winchester 1895 rifle.
- Notable for being a lever action design with an under-action box magazine.
- Fired full-sized pointed cartridges rather than stubby loads more commonly seen in cowboy guns.
“”In the 1920’s he was consistently on the best sellers’ list and was something of a paperback icon of his day.””
