Even though the Ebola virus has only recently come under the spotlight, it has been around for quite some time. Up until 2014, the virus was easily contained because it killed quickly and did not have time to spread before burning out. While malaria and typhoid fever kill way more people per year, Ebola does not have any promising cures of which we know. This makes it much scarier since contracting it means almost certain death. If there is ever an outbreak in the U.S., socially distancing ourselves from others is the best means of riding it out.
